Charter Oak State College, founded in 1973, is a public, liberal arts school. It is Connecticut's public virtual college that is designed to provide adults with an alternative means to earn an associates or bachelors degree. Academic credit may be awarded for course work completed successfully through Charter Oak's on-line courses and at other accredited institutions, academic instruction sponsored by non-collegiate organizations, military training evaluations, independent guided study, testing, portfolio assessment, and contract learning.
