Minnesota State University at Mankato, changed from Mankato State University in September 1998, is a public, comprehensive university. It was founded in 1867, joined the state system in 1957, and gained university status in 1975. Its 354-acre campus is located in Mankato, 85 miles south of Minneapolis-St. Paul.
